Pros: No need to browse physical DVD rental store. Don’t have to return rented DVD to DVD rental store. Wide-ish selection,, including foreign, obscure stuff. Free trial. Fast shipping. Flexible returns i.e. no late fees. No surcharge for Blu-Ray. Can add movies currently in cinema to my queue (of course have to wait till the movie is released on disc before it is available). Email notifications about what my next movie is.

Cons: No Blu-Ray or Premium content during free trial. As with services of this type, no way to pre-choose exactly what I want to watch at a particular time. Selection is wide-ish, but some gaps.

Overall: I am a movie buff who chooses not to have a movie disc collection. I have a $20 (8 DVDs, 2 at a time) account. I live in Sydney, so shipping is fast. I tried the same service from Tasmania, and the shipping time was longer (this means that the turnaround time between when a DVD is sent, and a new one is received is longer). I joined primarily because I have a PS3 that plays Blu-Ray. I found disc prices high, and rental stores have limited Blu-Ray titles. Even for DVDs, it’s a toss up whether popular movies are available when I visit, or (for weeklies) where on the shelf the movie is. For movies that I “want to watch now” without waiting for Quickflix to send to me, I pre-book it at my local RedRoomDVD kiosk, and rent it from there, or watch it on iTunes Store Rentals (no Dolby 5.1 sound). I find Quickflix suits my lifestyle, and highly recommend it. I haven’t had any scratched DVDs, or ones lost in the mail.
